British Motor Show is No-Go for 2012!
The SMMT (Society of Manufacturers and Traders Limited) have recently announced that the much anticipated British Motor Show will not be returning in 2012. Fans of the auto-world were disappointed before after the cancellation of the show in 2010 and it was hoped that the show would return in a couple of years’ time. Decisions to cancel the show in 2010 were thought to have been due to the ?economic downtown’ and ?unprecedented challenges within the automotive industry’.
Despite on-going consultations and reviews the decisions have been finally been made to stop all future British automotive shows. The Chief executive of SMMT has stated that the British International Motor Show has been a tremendously successful showcase for the UK motor industry and that in recent years the show has played a less important role in influencing new car buyers.
With limited resources for brand awareness, events, publicising activities and a more direct impact on customer decisions means that the show has been otherwise closed. Reading between the lines it seems that funding and the expense of the show has reached a stale-mate as bosses believe the endeavours and lengths to put the show together will not be entirely fruitful.
The motor industry is a massively competitive market and is home to globally successful companies and iconic products that will continue to grow.
Die-hard automotive fans out there will be sorely disappointed at the news and even more so because they were promised the full range of new Mitsubishi cars, London would have been the proud home of the show too, drawing in thousands of people to the city.
